Worship for October 18, 2020

Prayer for Preparing to Worship:

Come, Holy Spirit, in the Word of God, as the breath of life,
amidst your people gathered here and everywhere,
into our hearts and minds.
Stir us to know the happiness of life in your blessings. Amen.

Welcome - Jeff Foels

Passing of the Peace

We encourage you to contact others in the church, to reach out and connect, to check in on those that might need help, and to let others know the help you need, in mind, body, and spirit, in this uncertain time.

Prayer of the Day: Jeff Foels

God of creation, you have made us to be nourished in your care,

and you bless us so that we will turn again and again toward your gifts.

Show us how to love our neighbors and ourselves, and teach us to delight

in your law so that we will know the way of gratitude and thanksgiving.

In the name of Christ Jesus, our Savior, we pray. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 22:34-40 Read by Jeff Foels

34When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together,

35and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.

36“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”

37He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

38This is the greatest and first commandment.

39and a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Closing: Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer
Pastor Jeff Foels

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sending

Wherever you are, and wherever you go, hold this with you:

Be in the world in peace;

Have courage;

Hold onto what is good;

Return no one evil for evil;

Support the weak;

Help the suffering;

Honor all God’s children;

Love and serve the Lord,

Rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

May God, who creates, redeems, and sustains, keep you steadfast in faith,

buoyant in hope, and abounding in love. And the blessing of God, Father, Son,

and Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.

Alelluia! Amen.

God bless you while you stay steadfast in His Love!
