A Prayer for Preparing to Worship:

Loving God, help us to love others as Christ has loved us. Bring us into the spiritual joy of living our lives as your friend, and teach us to abide in your love, that we may show that love to the world. Amen.

Call to Confession, Prayer of Confession, and Assurance of Pardon

The Spirit of God helps us in our weakness, interceding with sighs too deep for words. trusting in God’s grace, let us confess our sins.

Almighty God, in raising Jesus from the grave, you shattered the power of sin and death. We confess that we remain captive to doubt and fear, bound by the ways that lead to death. We overlook the poor and the hungry, and pass by those who mourn; we are deaf to the cries of the oppressed, and indifferent to calls for peace; we despise the weak, and abuse the earth you made. Forgive us, God of mercy. Help us to trust your power to change our lives and make us new, that we may know the joy of life abundant given in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord. Amen.

In mercy God forgives us our sin and grants us genuine repentance through the grace and power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven and set free to live the new life. Thanks be to God.

Prayer of the Day - Craig Anderson

O God, you have prepared for those who love you joys beyond understanding.

Help us love what you command and work for what you promise. Help us fix our hearts in following you, where true joy is found. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

First Scripture: John 15:9-17

9    As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10  If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11  I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.

12  “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13  No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14  You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15  I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing;      but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. 16  You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last   so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. 17 I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.”

Second Scripture: 98:1-9

1   O sing to the LORD a new song,

          for he has done marvelous things.

     His right hand and his holy arm

          have gained him victory.

2   The LORD has made known his victory;

          he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations.

3   He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness

          to the house of Israel.

     All the ends of the earth have seen

          the victory of our God.

4   Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth;

          break forth into joyous song and sing praises.

5   Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre,

          with the lyre and the sound of melody.

6   With trumpets and the sound of the horn

          make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD.

7   Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;

          the world and those who live in it.

8   Let the floods clap their hands;

          let the hills sing together for joy

9   at the presence of the LORD, for he is coming

          to judge the earth.

     He will judge the world with righteousness,

          and the peoples with equity.

Prayers of the People and The Lords Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Wherever you are, and wherever you go, hold this with you:

Be in the world in peace;

Have courage;

Hold onto what is good;

Return no one evil for evil;

Support the weak;

Help the suffering;

Honor all God’s children;

Love and serve the Lord,

Rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

May God, who creates, redeems, and sustains, keep you steadfast in faith, buoyant in hope, and abounding in love. And the blessing of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

Thank you for what you can give, joyfully, to God!
