Worship for June 6, 2021

A Prayer for Preparing to Worship:

We are waiting, O God, to hear your Word, for in your Word is our hope. By the power of the Holy Spirit, may we hear your voice and be attentive to what you will say to us today. In the name of Christ, we ask this and all things. Amen.

Call to Confession, Prayer of Confession, and Assurance of Pardon

Let us confess our sins, for God has already forgiven us and is calling us to return to the Lord.

Gracious God, have mercy on us, for we have failed to be faithful to you, though you have been faithful to us. You show us your wisdom, but we prefer to go our own way. Our broken relationships with you and one another have created poverty in us and our neighbors. In your mercy, reconcile us to you and one another for the work of justice, peace, and love, through Jesus Christ, our redeemer. Amen

Siblings in Christ, do not lose heart. When we call, God hears us; when we confess, God forgives us. We believe and so we proclaim: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God, Amen.

Prayer of the Day

God of our days, we praise your name, for your grace sustains us. We wait for you, Lord, for your word strengthens us. Our inner nature is being renewed by your daily bread. Grant us the eyes to see what cannot be seen and to gaze on what is eternal. May we revel in your work and be a visible witness of your invisible kingdom. In Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Psalm 138:1-8

1   I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart;

          before the gods I sing your praise;

2   I bow down toward your holy temple

          and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;

          for you have exalted your name and your word

          above everything.

3   On the day I called, you answered me,

          you increased my strength of soul.

4   All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD,

          for they have heard the words of your mouth.

5   They shall sing of the ways of the LORD,

          for great is the glory of the LORD.

6   For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly;

          but the haughty he perceives from far away.

7   Though I walk in the midst of trouble,

          you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;

     you stretch out your hand,

          and your right hand delivers me.

8   The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me;

          your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever.

          Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Great God of every blessing,

of faithful, loving care,

you are the fount of goodness,

the daily bread we share.

How can we hope to thank you?

Our praise is but a start:

sincerely and completely

I offer you my heart.

Your Word is our salvation,

the source of endless grace,

in death and life extending

your covenant embrace.

In Christ we are one body;

each member has a part:

sincerely and completely

I offer you my heart.

Your Spirit is our teacher,

the light that guides our search,

transforming broken people

into the holy church.

For feeding us with mercy,

for wisdom you impart:

sincerely and completely

I offer you my heart.

A Thank You and Behind the Scenes Special by Jeff Foels

Prayers of the People and The Lords Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sending

Wherever you are, and wherever you go, hold this with you:

Be in the world in peace;

Have courage;

Hold onto what is good;

Return no one evil for evil;

Support the weak;

Help the suffering;

Honor all God’s children;

Love and serve the Lord,

Rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

May God, who creates, redeems, and sustains, keep you steadfast in faith, buoyant in hope, and abounding in love. And the blessing of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.

Amen.

Thank you for what you can give, joyfully, to our ministries!
