Worship for February 14, 2021

A Prayer for Preparing to Worship:

Speak to us, O God, and let the fire of your Spirit burn brightly in our hearts.
Open our minds to receive the wisdom of the law, the hope of the prophets, and the life of the gospel:
Jesus Christ, your living Word. Amen.

Welcome - Jeff Foels

Passing of the Peace

We encourage you to contact others in the church,
to reach out and connect, to check in on those that
might need help,
and to let others know the help you need, in mind, body, and spirit, in this uncertain time.

Call to Confession, Prayer of Confession, and Assurance of Pardon

Let us confess our sins before God, our help in times of trouble.

Loving God, we have tried to hide from you—to hide our faces, to hide our sin—yet you have never hidden your love for us.
We have tried to search for you— in temples, in clouds, on mountaintops—yet you have already revealed yourself to us in the face of Jesus Christ. Forgive us, and transform us so that our lives may shine with your glory, beauty, and grace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

God speaks to us with grace and love, saying: You are my beloved child.

This is the good news of the gospel: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Thanks be to God.

Glory Be to the Father (Gloria Patri)

music by Greatorex

Jusun Kim, Organ

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen. Amen.

Prayer of the Day - Jan Lillemo

Gracious God, we give you thanks or the light of love around us and the fire of faith within us.

Gather us among your faithful ones, the people of your covenant,

to stand in the light of your glory and listen for the word of the Lord,

Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

1st Scripture Reading: Psalm 50:1-6 - Jan Lillemo

1 The mighty one, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. 2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. 3 Our God comes and does not keep silence, before him is a devouring fire, and a mighty tempest all around him. 4 He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people: 5 “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!” 6 The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge.

2nd Scripture Reading: Mark 9:2-9 - Jeff Foels

2Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them.

4And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus.

5Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

6He did not know what to say, for they were terrified.

7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!”

8Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus. 9As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

Closing: Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer
Pastor Jeff Foels

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Wherever you are, and wherever you go, hold this with you:

Be in the world in peace;

Have courage;

Hold onto what is good;

Return no one evil for evil;

Support the weak;

Help the suffering;

Honor all God’s children;

Love and serve the Lord,

Rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

May God, who creates, redeems, and sustains, keep you steadfast in faith,

buoyant in hope, and abounding in love. And the blessing of God, Father, Son,

and Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.

Alelluia! Amen.
