Worship for December 6, 2020 - Advent Wk 2

An Advent prayer for Preparing to Worship:

Holy God, our hope and strength, by the power of your Spirit
prepare the way in our hearts for the coming of your Word,
so that we may see the glorious signs of your promise fulfilled;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Passing of the Peace

We encourage you to contact others in the church, to reach out and connect, to check in on those that
might need help, and to let others know the help you need, in mind, body, and spirit, in this uncertain time.

Advent Candle-Lighting and Prayer
with The Robrans

Loving God, in this time of preparation and planning, we thank you for the hope and peace you unfailingly offer us.
Show us the creative power of hope. Teach us the peace that comes from justice.
Prepare our hearts to be transformed by you, that we may walk in the light of Christ. Amen.

1st Scripture Reading: Isaiah 40:1-5 - The Robrans

1 Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid, that she has received from the Lord”s hand double for all her sins. 3 A voice cries out: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. 5 Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

Sermon: Jeff Foels

2nd Scripture: Mark 1:1-8 - Jeff Foels
1 The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2 As it is written in he prophet Isaiah, “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; 3 the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’” 4 John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
5 And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
6 Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.
7 He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals.
8 I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

Closing: Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer
Pastor Jeff Foels

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sending

Wherever you are, and wherever you go, hold this with you:

Be in the world in peace;

Have courage;

Hold onto what is good;

Return no one evil for evil;

Support the weak;

Help the suffering;

Honor all God’s children;

Love and serve the Lord,

Rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

May God, who creates, redeems, and sustains, keep you steadfast in faith,

buoyant in hope, and abounding in love. And the blessing of God, Father, Son,

and Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.

Alelluia! Amen.

God bless you while you stay steadfast in His Love!
