Worship for May 3, 2020

A Prayer for Preparing to Worship:

O God,

Light of the minds that know you,

Life of the souls that love you,

Strength of the thoughts that seek you:

Fill us with your Spirit,

That we may celebrate your glory,

And worship you in spirit and in truth,

Through Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen.

Welcome and Introduction: Prayer of the Day & Psalm 23 - Audio only

From Pastor Jeff Foels

Prayer of the Day:

Almighty God, you sent Jesus, our good shepherd, to gather us together.

May we not wander from his flock, but follow wherever he leads us,

listening for his voice and staying near him, until we are safely in your fold,

to live with you forever, through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Scripture: Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
   He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
   he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths
   for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
   I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
   your rod and your staff—
   they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
   in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
   my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
   all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
   my whole life long.

Passing of the Peace:

We encourage you to contact others in the church, to reach out and connect,

to check in on those that might need help,

and to let other know the help you need, in mind, body, and spirit

in this uncertain time.

Music: Based on Psalm 23 - "My Shepherd Will Supply my Need" (GTG 803)

Arr. and Performed by Jusun Kim

Scripture: John 10:1-10 from The Message:

“Let me set this before you as plainly as I can. If a person climbs over or through the fence of a sheep pen instead of going through the gate,

you know he’s up to no good—a sheep rustler! The shepherd walks right up to the gate. The gatekeeper opens the gate to him and the sheep

recognize his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he gets them all out, he leads them and they follow because

they are familiar with his voice. They won’t follow a stranger’s voice but will scatter because they aren’t used to the sound of it.”

Jesus told this simple story, but they had no idea what he was talking about. So he tried again. “I’ll be explicit, then. I am the Gate for the sheep.

All those others are up to no good—sheep stealers, every one of them. But the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the Gate. Anyone who goes

through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy.

I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sending Prayer

Wherever you are, and wherever you go, hold this with you:

Be in the world in peace; Have courage; Hold onto what is good; Return no one evil for evil; Support the weak; Help the suffering; Honor all God’s children; Love and serve the Lord, Rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

And may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,

The love of God,

And the communion of the Holy Spirit

Be with you all, now and forevermore.

Alelluia! Amen.
