We believe that children can be both teachers and learners! A full Sunday morning educational ministry is provided for children from preschool age through 5th grade to help them explore Bible stories and discover spiritual truths. Classes meet throughout the church from 10:45 am to 11:45 a.m.
Nursery care is provided on Sunday mornings for infants through age 4 during the worship service. We offer a safe, nurturing and positive environment for children in the nursery, from infant to Kindergarten.
Dear Parents-
Welcome to the Plymouth Presbyterian Church Nursery! We have a wonderful, clean, safe place for the youngest members of our congregation to be on Sunday mornings and we can’t wait to share it with you!
We offer you:
Age-appropriate toys and activities
The nursery is designed for infants through children who have not yet entered Kindergarten during worship. We offer a PreK Sunday School class for children who are 4 years old by September 1 during the Education Hour. If you have a 4 year old in that category, please contact Allison Nahr to get him or her registered for Sunday School.
Consistent caring leadership
Our Nursery Attendant, Barb Praus, serves in the nursery with a teen volunteer on Sunday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm when there is Sunday School. This allows parents the freedom to attend both the worship service and the adult education offerings (or teach Sunday School!) without worrying about what to do with their children.
Silent paging system
Each time you sign your child into the nursery, you’ll receive a silent pager. If you are needed during the worship service or education hour, your pager will vibrate to indicate you are needed. This adds an extra measure of security by letting the nursery workers remain in the nursery at all times.
Clean, safe facilities
Please take a moment to look over our Nursery Guidelines for Parents. We respectfully ask that all parents follow them so that we can ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all of our children. Of note, we are taking extra steps to ensure the health and safety of all who use the nursery, so we will now require all children to wash their hands with soap and water (not just hand sanitizer) immediately upon entering the nursery. We have hand sanitizer available in all classrooms throughout the church.
Parent Guidelines for Using the Nursery
Welcome to the PPC Nursery! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to care for your child. We want you to know your child is safe and well cared for while you attend worship and Christian Education.
In order to be faithful to our ministry with young children, and to ensure everyone's health and safety, we ask that you follow the following guidelines while using the nursery. We look forward to serving your family! Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
When you arrive…
The nursery is intended for infants through PreK age. Please keep older siblings out of the nursery.
There must be an adult or teen supervising in the nursery before children may enter the nursery. The nursery will be supervised from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm during the program year, and from 9:00 am to 11:00 am during the summer, as well as during the Christmas Eve family service.
Sign-in all children with their names, your name, and your pager number.
Children should wash hands with soap and water immediately upon arriving at the nursery. All children must wear nametags while in the nursery.
If your child needs a nametag, please fill out the nametag form on the Welcome Table and a permanent one will be made for him/her.
Children may not stay in the nursery if they are ill or exhibit symptoms of an oncoming illness. This includes: temperature greater than 99° F, diarrhea, or vomiting in the last 24 hours, undiagnosed rash, red eyes, or discharge from the eyes, or yellow/green discharge from the nose.
While your child is in the nursery…
Please notify the adult and teen volunteer in the nursery if your child had any special needs.
The teens and adults in the nursery will respond to all immediate needs of the children, however, if a child cannot be calmed within a reasonable amount of time, the parent will be paged.
No food or drink is allowed in the nursery at any time, including bottles and sippy cups. This is for the safety of children with food allergies and helps keep our room clean, safe, and insect-free. A table is provided in the Narthex for children to have a snack between worship and Sunday School.
Diapers are not changed in the nursery. If your child needs a diaper change, you will be paged. Please be prepared by providing your own diapers and wipes. Changing tables are located in the men's and women's restrooms.
Please encourage your child to respect the toys (share them, use them appropriately, not break them), to respect the other children (no hitting, kicking, biting or bad language), and to respect the teens and adults (by following instructions). Negative behavior will be redirected, not punished. If your child is having difficulty with these rules, you may be asked to remove him/her from the nursery.
If your child has problems separating from you, talk to your child about what to expect while they are in the nursery. Tell them what things they can do in the nursery, where you will be, and that you will return. Also introduce them to at least one of the leaders and point out one play area you think they may be interested in. By preparing them ahead of time, the adjustment will be easier.
If your children are using the nursery during a time when the nursery is typically unsupervised, it is your responsibility to make sure they clean it up so that it is ready for the next group of children.
Before you leave…
You must return your pager and sign your child out prior to his/her release. Please hang up your child's nametag on the board.
